Discover the Charm of 新華茶室 Kedai Kopi Sin Hwa

Located in the heart of Pulau Tikus, 新華茶室 Kedai Kopi Sin Hwa is a delightful cafe that encapsulates the essence of traditional Malaysian kopitiam culture. This is not just any café; it’s a trove of nostalgia where the past dances harmoniously with the present, igniting fond memories with each dish served.

Culinary Highlights

At Kedai Kopi Sin Hwa, the menu is a celebration of iconic Penang street food. The star of the show is undoubtedly the Char Koay Teow, a stir-fried flat rice noodle dish, expertly prepared with an abundance of prawns, lup cheong (Chinese sausage), and the option to top it off with duck or chicken eggs. It’s a dish that has earned rave reviews, likened to a long-lost treasure that outshines even the most popular stalls known for their queues.

Don’t miss out on the thoughtfully crafted Asam Laksa, a tangy noodle soup that bursts with the flavors of fresh herbs and generous ingredients. As one satisfied patron noted, it’s a delightful divergence from the often-overrated, watery offerings elsewhere, showcasing a rich authenticity that resonates with every spoonful.

An Atmosphere of Nostalgia

Step inside and you’re greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance. The cafe's decor speaks volumes of its history, as time seems to have preserved its character. Customer reviews tell stories of being served by an endearing elderly couple, infusing the experience with a heartfelt touch that feels almost familial. One visit to this charming eatery and you’ll understand why loyal customers like Andrew Wong return time after time—a legacy built over a span of three decades.

A Real Hidden Gem

If you’re seeking an escape from the tourist-laden paths of George Town, Kedai Kopi Sin Hwa is a choice that promises authentic flavours and heartfelt hospitality. As Ganda Purnama Sari eloquently remarked, it’s a hidden gem worth discovering—a place where every dish is made with care that transcends mere gastronomy.

Visiting this quaint cafe is more than a meal; it’s an experience steeped in history, delicious food, and a community atmosphere that leaves you feeling connected. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, make sure to swing by and see why this local kopitiam has won the hearts of so many!

This kopitiam is so underrated. This is surely a hidden gem. The CKT is best in Penang! Better than that stall that have long queues at the market i ordered once from Grab and it was very good!! decided to come eat at the kopitiam and its even better right from wok to table

We wanted to look for not so tourisy place. Read the reviews here before going. We finally came to Penang , and straight to this kopitiam. It’s very ancient , our drinks were served by an old couple , so nostalgic was the feeling. We ordered Char Koay Teow which was tasty , got prawns , lup cheong and a little kerang. Can order with duck or chicken egg.

Delicious assam laksa, well balanced with fresh and generous ingredients and garnishes. Love the old school authenticity. Beats the watery and overrated ones they are serving in touristy lane back in Georgetown.

Nostalgic place for our ckt fix in Penang. Our go to whenever we're on the island for the past 30 years, from dad to son. And the place hasn't changed, though the price has soard from RM1.50 then to now over RM10. Still, can't buy nostalgia

Introduced by my penang friend..come during weekday at about 2ish. No crowd. The kopitiam is rather small. We can only ordered char keuh teow and asam laksa as this are the one left. Char keuh teow not so my liking. Can taste bit salty and I kinda tasted wine in it. (Shao Xing wine) But portion wise is worth the price. RM7 Asam laksa surprisingly good. I somehow think nicer than the kekloksi one. Soup is very flavourful. The noodle also well cooked. RM5.50 Will I come again? Yes for the asam laksa!

I had the chance to try Sin Hwa 3rd Generation during a food exhibition in Yogyakarta — and wow, it was a delicious experience! I ordered their Char Kway Teow for 90,000 IDR. The noodles were perfectly stir-fried with just the right amount of smokiness, and they didn’t hold back on the prawns either. Each bite was flavorful and comforting — just the kind of dish that makes you feel at home, even in a busy event space. Authentic taste, generous portion, and friendly service. I’d love to try their other dishes next time. Definitely recommended if you're a fan of Malaysian-style street food!
